FUTURE
Our vision is to make our diverse community a healthier, cleaner and better place. By doing that we hope to serve more new immigrant and low-incoming families, and bring more awareness to their physical and mental health wellness. To target different groups within low income families, we have broken down some areas to focus on for each age group.
For children and teenagers of school age, we aim to provide academic advices by inviting CIS alumni to host college and career workshops.
For working adults, we plan to visit low income housing families to get more familiar of some obstacles they face. To serve more new immigrant families, we hope to obtain their consent to help them translate letters and bills they receive from agencies. We also plan to relieve their social burdens by establishing social media groups to communicate with each other’s and share local job opportunities.
For the elderly, we aim to provide comprehensive care by hosting nutrition and exercise workshops routinely. We will remind them for a regular check ups and help those elderly who are physically inconvenienced to schedule rides to clinics and hospitals. We are also planning on hosting hypertension and diabetes management program at their sites or local senior buildings.
Members and cultures
As a multicultural club, we have over 100 members from different ethnic groups, with immigrant members as a majority between 15 to 20 years old, including high school and college students.
What we have done so far
We have volunteer experience at a variety of events such as Naturalization Workshop, Chinese New Year Street Fair, Chinatown Community Resources Fair, etc. In addition, We also have self-organized programs such as holiday-themed parties which are designed to serve the elderly living in senior homes. We, as youth, deeply feel that it is part of our duty to help people out in our community and assist each other.
